Lisa Qualls

Lisa Qualls

Lisa Qualls -  Assistant Professor

·         M.M. - Pittsburg State University

·         BGS Missouri Southern State Univesity

Lisa was born on the flat plains of Kansas and moved to Missouri at a very young age.  She has been in church her entire life and loves nothing more than serving the Lord.  She grew up in a family where education and serving God were very important.  Lisa’s father was a physics and mathematics professor and she remembers, at a very early age, following her dad around on the college/university campus and feeling very much at home – therefore she got her first taste of higher education when she was quite young.  Lisa is often known for saying “I knew early in life I wanted to be a teacher.”

Lisa holds a BGS degree with an emphasis in Vocal Music Education from Missouri Southern State University, a Master of Music degree with specialization in Music History and Choral Conducting, post graduate work in Vocal Performance and Educational Technology with emphasis in designing and teaching various online course delivery systems.  She is currently pursuing schools for doctoral studies in the area of Higher Education.  Before coming to Messenger College, Lisa taught and designed online music and humanities courses for various colleges and universities across the country.

Lisa has been singing her entire life.  While in college she was a church choir director and private piano instructor.  She has been an active vocalist both on the East coast and throughout the Midwest, studying voice and choral conducting with  Dr. Marshall Turley, Guy Webb, Weston Noble, and Dr. Burton Parker.   Lisa has done extensive studies in the areas of ragtime, jazz and 20th century music.  Her master’s thesis is under review for publishing in the near future.  Lisa stays active in church – particularly with children’s music ministry conducting vocal choirs, bell choirs, and writing/directing children’s theater productions.

When Lisa is not teaching and singing she enjoys playing violin and cello with her family.  She is married to her wonderful husband, David – a bassist, and they have three children – Corban, Hannah, and Faith who all play violin as well.  Being in a very musical family has advantages because you are always surrounded by music and instruments.  Around the Qualls home you can always pick up an instrument and play.  Lisa states:  “The family unit is very important to us, and we work hard to raise our children with a deep love for God, country and of course – music!”
