Here is the President's Statement Concerning Relocation:
Since 1946, the Pentecostal Church of God has invested its dreams,
treasure, and other precious resources into the development of higher
educational institutions. The commitment of past visionaries has always
been to develop men and women who are grounded in biblical thinking,
holy in character, and spiritually powered to be effective agents of
positive change in their world. Over the past 65 years, that mission
has been accomplished in different locations and in different ways
across the United States. In all places and times, men and women have
been sent from these institutions into the world to deliver the good
news of Jesus Christ in the Spirit's power. The stories of their
successful work for the Kingdom of God are inspiring.
For the last 24 years, that mission has been executed through Messenger
College located on a lovely campus in Joplin, Missouri. We are grateful
for the work of God that has been accomplished here and look forward to
continued stories of God's goodness displayed in the men and women who
were shaped on this campus.
However, following the wind of God's Spirit means that we must be ready
to respond to changes in direction. For the last few years, the
governing board of Messenger College has sensed this change in
direction. Through a long and prayerful process, the college leadership
has elected to relocate operations to a wonderful new campus in the
Dallas/Fort Worth area. While the challenges of this process of
relocation are immense, the opportunities this change affords are
exciting.
The timing of our relocation is also providential. The tragic storm
that destroyed much of Joplin also devastated the beloved St. John's
Hospital. Our hearts continue to break over the conditions here, and we
continue to reach out to provide aid and comfort to those hurting in
Joplin. The destruction of St. John's Hospital has precipitated their
need to relocate and build new facilities. Already looking for a buyer
for our property, we were ready to accept St. John's purchase offer.
While we are sad to leave a community we have come to love deeply, we
are grateful that we are turning over our property to a wonderful
organization that will contribute to the healing and economic growth of
Joplin.
Negotiations have enabled us to complete this academic year here on our
Joplin campus. We will use this time to develop the new site and be
prepared to open for classes in our new location in Fall 2012.
Our mission as a college remains the same. In keeping with our 65 year
tradition, we will continue to develop men and women who are empowered
by the Spirit to change their world for Jesus Christ! The relocation to
the DFW Metroplex opens wonderful new doors in terms of student and
faculty recruitment as well as expanded opportunities learning
experiences for our students. The future is bright and exciting!
Throughout this process, we ask for your prayers. We also commit that
we will do our best to keep the public informed of developments as they
occur. There will be much more to share as more details become clear.
Check this web page consistently for updates. Thank you to all who have
participated in our past and are committed to our future. Together, we
are developing world-changing Pentecostal leaders for the 21st century!
In Christ,
Daniel P. Davis
President
