Admission Deadlines: TERM APPLY BY NOTIFIED BY Fall July 1 As Processed Spring October 1 As Processed Notes: Students interested in Fall or Spring admissions may begin applying as early as October 1st. Applications received after the dates posted above are considered on a case by case basis. We encourage prospective students to apply early and allow ample time to prepare for the start of a given semester. Students currently enrolled in their final year of high school studies may be approved for early provisional acceptance with an unofficial transcript showing the current semester of study. However, all official transcripts are required upon graduation in order to register for classes. Begin Your Application admissions requirements General Admission Requirements: The following admission requirements apply to all domestic learning program applicants. The student must be a believer in the Christian faith and willingly adhere to the doctrinal values of Messenger College. All courses are taught in English and English proficiency is required. Applicants are required to be high school graduates or to have earned an equivalent degree (GED) with a satisfactory record of achievement. Note : A “C” average is conventionally considered the minimum, but the Academic Office will handle, on an individual basis, those with non-standard and special education high school records. The student must complete the application form and request transcripts as described in the checklist above, including submission of... 2 non-relative references (at least one from a pastor) An admissions essay with statement of faith ACT or SAT scores if high school or college transfer GPA is less than 3.0 (unless otherwise approved by the Academic office). Admission to Messenger College is granted to all applicants who meet the College admission requirements and are duly approved by the Messenger College Office of Enrollment Services. The Admissions Committee will review the application and application essay to determine the applicant’s college readiness. College Entrance Exams (ACT/SAT) Messenger College considers the “whole student” in reference to academic readiness and is a test-optional-for-some institution. The Admissions Committee will review the application and application essay to determine the applicant’s college readiness. If the Admissions Committee determines the student may need additional help, the student may be admitted with restrictions and/or on an academic warning with the possibility of placement in developmental courses in subjects such as Math or English. For international students (see separate policy below) and first-time college students whose high school GPA is lower than a 3.0, applicants must submit college entrance exam scores (such as the ACT or SAT). For transfer students with a college GPA under 3.0, college entrance exams may also be required. If desired, the transfer students may submit alternative documentation of college readiness for consideration by the Admissions Committee. However, the Committee may still require college entrance exams on a case-by-case basis if the student’s college GPA is lower than a 3.0. A phone interview may also be required. The student may be admitted on academic warning and/or with additional restrictions. Ability to Benefit Applicants are required to be high school graduates with a satisfactory record of achievement. A “C” average in college preparatory work (such as CLEP exams) is conventionally considered the minimum. The Academic Office will handle, on an individual basis, those with non-standard and special education high school records. Applicants who do not have a high school diploma may be admitted if they can provide a GED certificate. Applicants who were home-schooled must have adequate records or a GED certificate. Transcripts from another country must have an evaluation of all international transcripts by the World Education Services (WES), a recognized foreign credential evaluation service, is required to indicate the US equivalency of the degree/coursework/GPA. Transcripts will also need to be translated to English (if applicable). Please visit www.wes.org (http://www.wes.org/)to find out how to submit official documents and begin the process. Please use the “WES Course-by-Course” evaluation report. The applicant is responsible for all fees to WES. The WES report should be sent directly to Messenger College from WES. Applicants who present unfavorable records may (1) be denied admission, or (2) be admitted with restrictions and on academic warning. This warning may be lifted by meeting satisfactory academic progress at the end of the first semester of enrollment. Students may also be required to take developmental courses. Students enrolled in developmental courses must earn a minimum C letter grade in order to advance into ENG1013 English Composition 1 or MAT1113 College Algebra. Students taking ENG1013 English Composition 1 must pass this course with a minimum C grade before moving to ENG1023 English Composition 2. Required Disclosures Admission to Messenger College is granted to all applicants who meet the College admission requirements and are duly approved by the Messenger College Office of Enrollment Services. Consideration will be given to each applicant without regard to race, color, creed, national origin, gender, handicap or age. However, attendance at Messenger College is a privilege and not a right. Any student who does not abide by the standards and regulations of the College may forfeit such a privilege. Admission may be denied to those persons whom the institution considers to be a potential danger to the safety, security, and educational environment of Messenger College. The college may revoke (or may subject to certain conditions) the admission of any already admitted person who is deemed to be a potential danger to safety or security or threatens to disrupt educational processes. Such persons shall be afforded due process as outlined in the Student Handbook. In order to help foster a safe learning environment, the college requires those individuals who have been convicted of a felony, and who are interested in attending classes at the college, to disclose this information prior to registering for credit or continuing education classes. Felons who have been convicted of sexual offense and/or violent crimes may be admitted to the college but may not be admitted to student housing. Based on the nature of the offense and other factors, the college reserves the right to deny admission, revoke admission, limit enrollment and/or restrict activities of a student. Campus notifications will be initiated as deemed necessary. Failure to disclose a felony conviction may result in the student being immediately withdrawn from current classes and may result in disciplinary action including suspension or dismissal, as outlined in the Student Handbook. Payments may be made in four equal installments during the semester as indicated by the Payment Plan Agreement. For certificate programs, the down payment is waived. It is the responsibility of each student to carefully review and understand all documentation, including but not limited to, their Enrollment Agreement, Application, Award Letter, Master Promissory Note, school catalog, Guide to Financial Aid, and all loan disclosures, regarding their financial aid rights and responsibilities. Students are also required to know their current aggregate amounts borrowed under all loan programs and amounts received under the Pell Grant program. Changing programs, institutions, attendance level, along with failing or dropping courses, will directly impact SAP and financial aid eligibility and aggregate amounts. What is student entrance counseling? The Department of Education requires all college students to complete Entrance Counseling. This is to make sure you understand all your rights and responsibilities of student loans. You can complete your entrance counseling at www.studentloans.gov When financial aid is awared, the student will receive a personal letter detailing the amount and type(s) of aid awarded to them. The award letter will also contain additional instructions and links to completing Entrance Counseling and other documentation required to begin receiving Federal Financial Aid. Review Tuition & Fees Net Price Calculator Scholarships: Messenger College has a limited number of donor-supported academic and need-based scholarships available each year. Interested applicants may obtain a scholarship application from the Office of Financial Aid ( finaid@messengercollege.edu ). Although due dates may vary from year to year, general scholarship deadlines are March 1 for the fall semester and December 1 for the following spring semester. Contact Financial Aid Distribution Scholarship amounts are subject to change and the availability of funds each semester. The Scholarship Committee of MC reviews and awards scholarships to applicants; however, completing and submitting an application does not guarantee acceptance or receipt of any scholarship. Federal grants and loans, along with external scholarships, will be applied first to the student’s account, followed by MC internal scholarships. Eligibility To be eligible, students must have completed an application and been officially accepted in one of MC’s degree programs. In addition, the applicant must be a residential student living in the college-owned apartments, and be enrolled in a minimum of 12 credit hours to remain eligible. Students accepted to MC on probation are not eligible to apply for any scholarships for that semester.     MC's Leadership and Faculty: Our President: Dr. James Rayburn President President Rayburn has served as a Youth Minister, Military Army Chaplain, Kentucky District Bishop, and Assistant General Bishop of the Southeast Division of the Pentecostal Church of God. He has a B.A. in Christian Ministry from Southern Bible College, a M.S. Degree in Guidance/Counseling from Radford University, a M.Div. Degree from the Assemblies of God Graduate School, and a Doctor of Ministry Degree from the Louisville Presbyterian Theological Seminary. He is also a Licensed Professional Clinical Counselor, Marriage and Family Therapist, and a Board-Certified Chaplain. He is married to Mimi Withrow Rayburn, ARNP, and has two daughters, Candace (Jacob) and Carlyn (David), plus two grandchildren, David and Renee Alvarez. President Rayburn has served on the Governing Board of Messenger College since its existence, with a three-year exception while stationed with the US Army in Germany. Since returning, he served as the Chair of Counseling for Messenger College, until becoming the Messenger College President in 2021.     Coronavirus (COVID-19) Response Review MC's COVID-19 Safe Return to Campus Plan Student Emergency Financial Aid Grants Higher Education Emergency Relief Funds (HEERF) 30 Day Fund Report June 9, 2020 Messenger College signed and returned to the Department of Education the Certificate and Agreement for the Higher Education Emergency Relief Fund for Emergency Financial Aid Grants to Students under the Coronavirus Aid, Relief, and Economic Security (CARES) Act on April 24, 2020. This document is an assurance that MC has used, or intends to use, no less than 50% of the funds received under Section 18004(a)(1) of the CARES Act to provide Emergency Financial Aid Grants to students. As of May 9, 2020, the total amount of funds MC has been awarded by the Department for Emergency Financial Aid Grants to Students is $20,880. The total amount of Emergency Financial Aid Grants distributed to students under Section 18004(a)(1) of the CARES Act as of June 8, 2020 is $0. The funds are currently unavailable due to a payment route flag that must be cleared before the funds can be drawn down and distributed. The estimated total number of students eligible to participate in programs under Section 484 in Title IV of the Higher Education Act of 1965 and thus eligible to receive Emergency Financial Aid Grants to students under Section 18004(a)(1) of the CARES Act is 32. Students who are enrolled exclusively in an online program are not eligible and not included in this number. The total number of students who have received a Higher Education Emergency Relief Fund Grant to students under Section 18004(a)(1) of the CARES Act is 0 as of June 8, 2020. MC’s method to determine which students receive Higher Education Emergency Relief Fund Grants and how much they would receive under Section 18004(a)(1) of the CARES Act was based on eligibility and qualifying expenses requested in an application MC sent the following email to eligible students concerning the Higher Education Emergency Relief Fund Grants On March 27, 2020, the CARES Act was signed into law. This Act provides grants to institutions such as Messenger College to assist its students who have experienced expenses related to the disruption of campus operations. Messenger College has been awarded a grant relative to the CARES Act and will be distributing funds to affected students once the funds are available, but you must complete and submit an application in order to receive any money. The funds are intended to cover expenses related to the disruption of campus operations due to coronavirus (including eligible expenses under a student’s cost of attendance, such as food, housing, course materials, technology, health care, and child care). The completed application must be received by the Director of Financial Aid no later than the end of the day on Monday, May 18*. Once funds are distributed to students, late applications (received after May 18) will be considered if there are any funds remaining. 45-Day Update July 16, 2020 As of this date, $20,880 has been received under Section 18004(a)(1) of the CARES Act to provide Emergency Financial Aid Grants to students. All $20,880 of Emergency Financial Aid Grants has been distributed to students under Section 18004(a)(1) of the CARES Act as of this date. Emergency Financial Aid Grants were awarded to all 32 eligible students. All eligible students received a minimum of $325. Additional amounts were awarded based on amounts requested in the applications received.
